Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Authority (HMDA) is yet to start 718 km grid road works on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) growth corridor. The government in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh issued GO no 470, dated 9 August 2008, to complete the grid works in three months but, even after nine years the HMDA is yet to take up the works.

The HMDA officials are now contemplating to take area development plan (road pattern works) on some parts of ORR.According to the GO No 470, the competent authority shall undertake the marking of the proposed circulation network within the ORR growth corridor area on ground and complete it within three months from the date of issue. The 718 km grid roads are for better infrastructure and to ease the traffic flow, these roads will have 374 connecting points at 700 m each which will connect service roads and other interchanges.

A senior HMDA official said the 718km grid road will have 374 connecting points which will have axis to service roads. He said HMDA is now planning to take up area development plan in some parts of ORR. The official said the HMDA had called for tenders two years ago for the development of these grid roads. He said the grid roads are yet demarcated and if the grid roads are developed there could more growth on ORR. He also said the two lane grid road of 1 km would cost around Rs 8 crore.
