Hyderabad: The State Congress unit which is facing internal bickering between senior leaders Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, K Jana Reddy and present chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy for the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president post is heading into crisis with BC and SC communities leaders joining the race ahead of 2019 elections.

The appointment of All India Congress Committee (AICC) leader R C Khuntia as the new Telangana Congress Incharge led to hectic political developments in the party. Congress leaders belonging to Backward Classes (BCs) and Scheduled Castes (SCs) initiated efforts to take over the TPCC mantle from the Reddy community.

While a group of BC leaders left for New Delhi to meet AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi, the SC leaders are planning to meet AICC President Sonia Gandhi soon.

In regard to the same, Rahul Gandhi will conduct a meeting here on Saturday with various BC leaders from Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Several senior BC leaders P Laxmaiah, D Nagendar, V Hanumantha Rao, Madhu Yashki etc have reached the capital city well ahead in time for the meeting.

According to party sources, the BC leaders are prepared to explain the importance of according priority to BCs in the party in proportionate to their population in Telangana. They are set to give a power-point presentation on the representation of each community in the party and the role of BCs in the party since the formation of Telangana.

The BC leaders have been demanding key posts in the district and State party committees. The delegation would also bring to the notice of Rahul, the declining BC support to Congress following the quitting of several senior leaders like D Srinivas, N Vidyasagar Rao and others and its impact on the party. The leaders are of a strong view that the BCs would be united only under the leadership of Backward communities in the State.
