Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president K Laxman on Friday said that the party would organise a big public meeting in the city on September 17 to mark the Telangana Liberation Day and expose the double standards of the TRS government in this regard.

Addressing the Telangana Vimochana Committee meeting of the party here on Friday, Laxman said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who spoke highly about the Liberation Day before the 2014 elections, had bowed down to the pressure tactics of MIM party and refused to organise the official celebrations.

Laxman said that States like Karnataka and Maharashtra, which were under the rule of the Nizam of Hyderabad, celebrate Liberation Day on September 17 on a grand scale. However, the government in Telangana was hesitating to celebrate the day officially as KCR developed cold feet, he lamented.

The State BJP president said that there were two more Liberation Days remaining for the TRS to celebrate before the next elections and if it fails to celebrate it officially, the BJP would come to power in 2019 and take up celebrations officially in a befitting manner.

Laxman said that in the past, the TRS chief used to target the Congress leaders and even asked for their resignations for not celebrating the day officially. KCR should recall his promise and the ministers in his Cabinet should exert pressure on the Chief Minister for celebrating the Telangana Liberation Day officially, he added.

Laxman said that the party would organise a public meeting in the city on September 17 and expose the TRS party’s dubious stand. He said that the party leaders would tour villages and create awareness among the masses.

Laxman demanded the State government to include the Telangana history, struggle and about the Liberation Day, September 17, in the school syllabus.

Telangana Vimochana Committee Chairman N Srivardhan Reddy, Vice-chairman R Sridhar Reddy, convener Ch Swamy Goud, BJP general secretary Ch Sambhamurthy, G Premender Reddy, secretary P Papa Rao, Yuva Morcha state president G Bharat Goud, SC Morcha president V Ashok, minority morcha president Afsar Pasha and others were present on the occasion.
