Hyderabad: Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said that by implementing cage culture in Telangana State, the fisheries sector could be benefited more.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday after a review meeting with Rani Kumudini, Chief Executive of the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), he informed that there are 3345 Fisheries cooperative societies and out of these 383 exclusively managed by women. Around 5.43 lakhs of fishermen and 5.35 lakhs fisher women are in Telangana and there are 78 reservoirs, 3500 tanks, 474 ponds.

Dattatreya said that by following latest technological method such as cage culture there is an ample scope to make increase production and this sector can be more profitable for the fishing community. He said he would soon have discussion on this. The Centre has allotted Rs. 9.60 crore and released Rs. 4.45 crore for fish markets in Kukatpally, Nacharam, Begumbazar and Domalguda. But even after constant persuasion, the works were not started at any of these. The remaining amount can be released once these funds would have been utilised, he said. He argued the Telangana government to strengthen the fisheries cooperatives societies.

The Union Minister also held a review meeting with Professor Suresh Kumar, Vice Chancellor of English & Foreign Languages University (EFLU) during the day. Speaking to the media, he urged the state government to allot 200 acres land at different place as the previously allotted land at Pochampally was not suitable for the construction of the new campus. Dattatreya stated that there are plans to make the EFLU as the Model International University. EFLU to offer free online courses to learn 9-foreign languages soon and the state government has to tie up with EFLU to train teachers in English as nearly 10,000 schools offering English medium education now.

Dattatreya also informed that 10 new trades in Automobile, construction, health, retail and printing sectors will be started at ITI Mallepally, Hyderabad. By entering into MOU with companies like Maruthi-Suzuki, the students will be benefitted in getting employment, he said. The ITI-Musheerabad will also be developed by providing modern infrastructure. Dattatreya added that the Ministry of Labour and employment will organise a job mela in Nizamabad on August 19.
