Secunderabad: Renowned Malayalam novelist Kovilan was a great writer who used scientific symbols in his works more than his contemporaries, said noted Malayalam critic Asha Menon.

Menon was delivering Kovilan Memorial Lecture – A New Creative Wavelength – at Naveena Samsakarika Kala Kendram (NSKK) in Secunderabad. “Though he had no knowledge about various literary schools prevailing during his time, his works have tremendous energy packed in them.

The readers who could not accept that power failed to understand him properly,” Menon said. “The rhythm of his language is what makes his works unique. As he hid the energy in the rhythm of his language, his works have become eternal,” he said.

Inaugurating the lecture, noted poet and lyricist Rafeeq Ahmed said readers needed to understand Kovilan’s writings much better and he was a phenomenal author who should be understood deeply. “His style of language, themes and insight make him an author of a different genre,” he added.

Uttara Sudhir rendered the invocation. AIMA Telangana unit president TSC Prasad, programme convenor K U Isaac, NSKK chairman K P Thampan and others also spoke. All India Malayalee Association (AIMA) Telangana unit and International Kovilan Study Circle, in association with NSKK organised the programme. K V Mohandas chaired the programme. NSKK general secretary E Vipinan felicitated Asha Menon on the occasion.

Senior journalist and Hyderbadi Malayalee Payam Sudhakaran’s English novel – The Misfit – was released by Asha Menon. The author and the book were introduced by senior journalist C G Chandramohan. A documentary titled ‘Kovilan, Ente Achachan’ directed by M A Rahman was screened and noted danseuse Anita Peter staged a Mohinayattam on the occasion.
