Residents in a fix as Army closes one more road
The Local Military Authority (LMA) closed another road, taking the tally to 10 roads that are out of bounds for the common man. People living in the Secunderabad Cantonment were in for a rude shock when they found a board stating, ‘Defence Area- no thoroughfare’ on Monday morning.

It may be noted that just a few months ago, in response to an RTI, the LMA had revealed that six out of the nine roads belonged to Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) but later on said that it was a typing error and two roads would be opened. S Chandrasekhar of Open Secunderabad Cantonment All Roads (OSCAR) says, “Instead of opening the roads, the LMA is on a closing spree.”
The road that has been closed on Monday is called Sree Sai Theatre road. As per the 1933 GLR, it was known as Murtuza Hospital Road. Chandrasekhar says, “It is not a unit line road as people have been using the road for decades.”
According to Jitender Surana, a resident of Bolarum, “Whenever Chief Minister K Chandrashekar travels to Gajwel, civilian traffic is diverted. The Lakdawala Gate also was closed and as a result, people have to travel 10 km and take a roundabout route instead of 1.3 km.”
When asked, S V R Chandra Shekar, CEO, SCB, said he would have to look into the matter but if it was a cantonment road, the board would make sure it is opened.
