Hyderabad: The Agriculture Prices and Costs (APC) committee meeting, chaired by Principal Secretary Agriculture C Partha Sarathi, on Thursday instructed the insurance companies to transfer the claim amounts to the bank branches concerned by October 9 as promised by them.

A sum of Rs 95.25 crore needed to be paid to about 1.95 lakh farmers in the State under PMFBY and Rs 63.33 crore under RWBCIS for Kharif 2016 under crop Insurance.

A review meeting attended by several insurance companies here reviewed the details districtwise claims and number of farmers to be benefitted under Prime Minister Fasal Bhima Yojana (PMFBY) and Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) for the Kharif and Rabi during 2016-17 financial years.

Commissioner of Agriculture M Jaganmohan and senior officials attended the meeting. The officials told insurance companies that the State government’s share in the premium subsidy had already been released. The representatives of the insurance companies were asked to speed up the process of settlement of claims. The meeting noted receipt of some weather data for settlements and decided to hold another meeting on October 10 to review the progress of the work.

Further, the meeting had also decided to include the crop insurance in the agenda at the State Level Bankers (SLBC) meeting scheduled on October 5. Information regarding the insurance claim amount payable to the farmers for Kharif 2016 would be intimated to the District Collectors to help them speed up the early transfer of claim amounts to the farmers’ accounts, the officials said.
