Hyderabad: The annual Dasara convergence, Alai Balai, organised by BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya turned out to be a meet to console the former Union minister, who had lost his minister post.
While, the Congress senior leader V Hanumanth Rao questioned Dattatreya’s removal, the Union Minister for State for Home Affairs Hansraj Gangaram Ahir said that Dattatreya would be given a suitable post.
During the meeting, Congress leader V Hanumanth Rao raised the issue of dropping of Dattatreya from the Union Ministry. He said that many BCs were unhappy with this move and hence there were very less members in the meeting hall; otherwise the hall would have been full by this time. Hanumanth Rao said that on one hand the BJP wants to become an alternative to TRS in the State and on the other hand it was trying to keep itself away from BCs, who are over 50 per cent in Telangana.
“The BCs are angry over this move. Though I am a Congress man I am also hurt with Prime Minister Modi’s decision. I thought he will get promotion since Modi is also from BC. Dattatreya is not involved in any corruption, he had not done anything wrong,” said Hanumanth Rao.
The Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir said that he could understand the agony of Hanumanth Rao and added that the party had not insulted Dattatreya. The party has high respect towards Dattatreya. “No government will do injustice to anyone. Modiji is also from BC, who works for all sections.
Our slogan itself is ‘Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas’,” said Ahir listing out the work done for BCs such as setting of National Backward Classes Commission and increasing income limit of creamy layer from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 8 lakh. He praised Dattatreya as a successful minister during his tenure as a Union Minister of State for Labour. Dattatreya ensured passage of several bills whether it is PF, contract labourers among others, Ahir said.
TRS MP K Keshav Rao too echoed Hanumanth Rao’s comments but said that no post was bigger than Dattatreya. He said that everyone would hear a news about giving top post to Dattatreya.
He said that Alai Balai has become a synonym with Dattatreya. Union Labour Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Chairman of Legislative Council K Swamy Goud, Deputy Chief Minister Md Mahamood Ali, Home Minister Naini Narasimha Reddy, JAC Chairman Prof M Kodandaram and others recalled how the Alai Balai programme used to unite the political parties during the Telangana agitation.
Bandaru Dattatreya said that Alai Balai was the programme to bring people of all sections on one platform for forgetting hatred. “I want to see a vibrant Telangana because a vibrant Telangana would lead to a vibrant India. I want to see Telangana State as number one,” he said.
Eminent personalities in the State were felicitated by Dattatreya at the event. At a feast, they were served with several varieties of food.
