Hyderabad: After creating much hype about his joining the Congress on November 9, Telangana TDP working president A Revanth Reddy seems to have developed cold feet ostensibly due to the pending note-for-vote scam case that has been haunting the Telangana TDP leader for quite some time.

After three days of high political drama wherein he clearly indicated that he was all set to join the Congress, Revanth on Sunday skipped the politburo meeting held at the NTR Trust Bhavan and instead convened a meeting of his followers and in a sort of U-turn told the party workers not to believe the speculations that he was joining the Congress.

He said he would continue to represent the Kodangal constituency as long he was in active politics. Revanth told his supporters that “just as Amethi is the bastion of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, Kuppam for TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu and Pulivendula for YS Rajasekhar Reddy, Kodangal is my strong hold.” He said he would take a decision after discussing with Chandrababu Naidu.

Revanth said that he would soon meet Naidu and would explain everything to him. He also announced that he would convene the TTDP Legislature Party meeting on October 26.

Political circles say that Revanth has been advised by some of his close associates to go slow in the matter as it could lead to major trouble for him. According to sources, his associates cautioned him that there was every possibility that the government might speed up the probe into the note-for-vote scam. The case has been under investigation by various agencies and is pending in the court since 2015.

Meanwhile, the TDP Telangana unit held an emergency meeting on Sunday at the party head office on the instructions of the TDP chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu who is on a foreign visit. Telangana unit TDP president L Ramana spoke to Naidu on phone and explained the developments that took place in the party ever since Revanth Reddy reportedly met Rahul Gandhi.

Ramana later held a meeting of the politburo and discussed the issue of whether or not to suspend Revanth with senior leaders Mothkupalli Narasimhulu and E Peddi Reddy. However, the party decided to take some more time to announce its decision officially.

The TTDP president told the media that there was no clarity in the statement made by Revanth in Kodangal on Sunday. Revanth did not say that he would contest from Kodangal as TDP candidate, Ramana said, adding that only some Congress leaders had been claiming that Revanth was joining the Congress.
