New Delhi: Former TDP working president and MLA, Revanth Reddy, waded into the Congress politics here on Tuesday by joining the grand old party in the presence of Rahul Gandhi at the latter's residence.

Party in-charge, R C Kuntia, PCC president, Uttam Kumar Reddy and former MP V Hanumantha Rao and other senior leaders were present.

Besides Revanth, 14 other TDP leaders, including ex-ministers, ex-MLAs and ex-MLCs like Seethakka of Mulugu constituency joined the Congress party. Two ex-MLAs of TRS and four prominent leaders of Osmania University JAC, including Durgam Bhaskar also joined the Congress party.

According to party insiders, the Congress party had worked out a clear strategy to take on the ruling TRS in Telangana. This would lead to a revamp of the TPCC. Kodangal leader and a few of his supporters would get important posts in the party particularly in the state and district committees.

It is learnt that the Congress high command had assured Revanth that it would give nearly 20 tickets, including Assembly and Lok Sabha to his close associates in the next general elections.

Sources said that Revanth was also promised a key post in Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC). Since he was the working president in TDP, the AICC is likely to appoint him as another working president in TPCC and would be made in-charge of the campaign committee.

At the same time, soon after Rahul Gandhi takes over as the next AICC president he would fix targets for all senior Congress leaders, including the TPCC president and Revanth to strengthen the Congress and see that the party emerges as a force to be reckoned with in Telangana.

“It is going to be perform or perish,” a senior leader told The Hans India. The AICC was closely examining the political developments taking place in Telangana and put together a strong team to fight against Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in the next elections.

Senior Congress leaders Damodar Raja Narasimha, K Jana Reddy, Mohd Ali Shabbir and P Laxmaiah are likely to play a key role in deciding the party strategy in the next elections, the sources added.
