Hyderabad: Justice Shameem Akhter of the High Court at Hyderabad has reserved for orders on the two petitions filed by former Minister and Congress leader D Sridhar Babu seeking quashing of the criminal case filed against him by Chikkadpally police and another seeking anticipatory bail after arguments on both sides concluded.

Telangana State Public Prosecutor C Pratap Reddy, in his arguments, strongly urged the court not to grant anticipatory bail as the petitioner’s conduct was not in tune with his stature as a former Minister. He alleged that Sridhar Babu had abetted a conspiracy to implicate a TRS leader by planting 10 kg ganja in the cattle shed of TRS leader Kishan Reddy to implicate him in the drugs case.

There was telephonic conversation in this connection as evidence, he informed the court. Instigating one of the accused to plant the ganja is an abetment, which was also a crime under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The Chikkadpally police registered a criminal case against three persons, including the former minister on the basis of a complaint lodged by the TRS leader.

Senior counsel, Vedula Venkataramana, appearing for the former Minister, contended that there was no substance in the case and his client was being harassed because politically he is on the opposite side of the government. The judge reserved his orders.
