Hyderabad: The High Court at Hyderabad took a serious view of the Telangana State government sealing the premises of Wakf Board office and directed it to explain under what authority it had taken this action.

The division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavli on Tuesday gave this direction while hearing a case filed by M A K Mukheed, a practising advocate of the High court, who alleged that the government had acted high-handedly and without jurisdiction.

He pointed out that a full-fledged board was in place and the government had no power to summarily seal the office. The Government Pleader for Minority Affairs Department contended that there were serious allegations of illegal activity and it was only to ensure that the records were protected properly that the government had sealed the premises. The bench asked the government to explain the source of power for such an action and adjourned the case to Thursday.
