Hyderabad: There are too many ifs and buts as far as inauguration of Metro Rail by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is concerned. First, the state is yet to receive any official confirmation from the Prime Minister’s Office. Secondly, even if the Prime Minister chooses to inaugurate it, there is uncertainty over whether he would take ride in the train.
The only programme that the state has received so far is that the Prime Minister would inaugurate the three-day Global Entrepreneur Summit in Hyderabad on Nov 28. There was no mention of inauguration of Metro Rail the same day. The government has requested the PMO to include the Metro Rail inauguration in the PM’s official schedule during his one-day visit to Hyderabad.
Telangana State Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao said that the government was yet to receive official communication from the PMO on the inauguration of the Metro Rail by the Prime Minister.
Based on the information furnished by the Special Protection Group (SPG), which monitors Modi’s visit, the state government is making arrangements for the inauguration of the Metro Rail by PM, according to top officials. The government has already made arrangements for the PM’s travel by Metro for some distance immediately after the inauguration.
The Miyapur Metro station, the venue for the inauguration, has already come under the surveillance of the SPG. Officials said that it is not clear if the Prime Minister after arrival in the afternoon on Nov 28, would travel by the Metro Rail even if he chooses to inaugurate it. In view of his tight schedule, if the PM decides to skip Metro ride, the government has Plan B for the Metro Rail inauguration.
A remote inauguration facility will be provided at Miyapur Metro station’s ground floor where PM will arrive, launch and leave immediately. Screening of a short film and an exhibition on Metro Rail will be arranged at the venue. This will facilitate the PM to have a glimpse of the modern transport facility in the city in a short time. This facility will be utilised only if Modi cancels his Metro ride.
Sources said that Modi’s schedule to inaugurate and travel by Metro Rail will be known officially two days prior to the inauguration of the station. However, the government is busy making all required arrangements.
