Hyderabad: The Girijana Praja Samakhya (GPS) on Sunday demanded that the government increase the reservations to tribals in the State.

The Samakhya national president V Shankar Naik, in a press conference here, said that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government should increase the reservations to tribals from six to 12 per cent as promised during 2014 elections.

The TRS, which acquired power by promising 12 per cent reservations to tribals who constitute 15 per cent of the State’s population, had completely ignored the tribals, he said.

The Samakhya president opposed the proposal of inclusion of Boyas into the tribal community. He demanded that the government declare the tribal tandas with a population of 500 as special panchayats and provide autonomy to them. He wanted the government to fill the vacant ST posts in schools.

Tribal leaders Ramavat Dinesh Naik, students’ leader M Ashok Naik, Hyderabad unit president J Venkatesh Naik, State leaders M Sridhar Naik, Bhuma and others were present.
