Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Panchayat Raj, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Parshottam Khodabhai Rupala criticised the Congress party for derailing parliamentary traditions and democratic norms by disrupting the House proceedings during the recently-concluded budget session of the Parliament.
He addressed the party leaders and workers at a day-long fast organised by Secunderabad MP Bandaru Dattatreya here on Thursday. The hunger strike was organised in response to a call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to observe a nation wise day-long fast against the recent Parliament logjam.
Criticising the Congress party for the washout of proceedings in both Houses of Parliament, Rupala said that the main opposition was worried about its dwindling fortunes across the country, including thenorth-east.
He said it was for the first time after independence that such a thing happened in the Parliament at the cost of the Parliament traditions and democratic norms. The Congress party's behaviour indicates that it has no belief in the democracy.
He said: “Earlier, there were no such incidents to completely obstruct whenever Prime Minister, who is the leader of the House rises to speak. Similar, tradition has been followed when the leader of the opposition speaks in both the Houses. But, the Congress-led opposition had for the first time showed its contempt towards parliamentary norms obstructing when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was speaking in the Parliament. Politically too, the Congress has been losing out to the BJP in every match.
So, instead of improving itself, it has been trying to disrupt the game itself," he said. BJP State president Dr K Laxman said obstructing Parliament proceedings reflects the Congress party mindset that only one-family should rule the country and that only Congress president Rahul Gandhi alone should occupy the seat of the Prime Minister. “Its political antics were a clear indication of its intolerance towards a leader like Modi coming from weaker sections of the society and becoming a PM,” he said.
Terming Congress an undemocratic political party, Bandaru Dattatreya said several problems faced by people in the country could not be addressedas Bills intended to the welfare of people could not be brought before the House due to Congress stalling the proceedings.
Dismissing the allegations levelled against the Centre by the TRS and TDP-run State governments in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Dattatreya said that BJP would show its strength in both the Telugu States in the ensuing general elections.
BJP MLA G Kishan Reddy said that Modi has been leading from the front by making efforts and the whole world has been taking India seriously on several fronts. Earlier, the Prime Minister of the country used to stand behind a family with folded hands. Now, the Congress is not able to digest these changes taking place in the country, he added.
