Hyderabad: Deputy floor leader of Congress in Legislative Council Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy on Friday demanded the Chief Minister to hold the monsoon session of the Assembly to discuss various issues being faced by the State immediately.

He said that the Parliament sessions would begin from July 18 and Andhra Pradesh has been holding the Assembly sessions simultaneously. The AP government wants to bring pressure on the Centre for implementation of the promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act (APRA).

He said that so far Telangana government did not take any action to bring pressure on the Centre to implement promises made to it in the APRA. The Chief Minister was quite silent on the issue.

Sudhakar Reddy alleged that even the government did not bother to file counter affidavit in the Supreme Court on the implementation of promises made to Telangana. He said that the Chief Minister should tell whether he was happy with the Centre for not implementing the promises.

He said that apart from the promises, the debt burden on the state is increasing day by day. The debt before the formation of the state was Rs 68,000 crore and the borrowings of the present government and the guarantees given to corporations has reached to Rs 2 lakh crore.

Still the government is estimating a requirement of another Rs 1.5 lakh crore to fund the projects. The cost of the projects has been rising with cost escalation. The government has given administrative sanction of Rs 80,000 crore for Kaleshwaram project and spent Rs 35,000 crore so far. The cost of that project is going to rise by another Rs 32,000 crore above the administrative approval.

In the same way the cost of Palamuru – Ranga Reddy project may rise by Rs 3,500 crore and Devadula project by Rs 2,000 crore. Further borrowings would ruin the state economy, he said.

Sudhakar Reddy wanted to know from the BJP on the efforts it has put to ensure implementation of promises made to Telangana. He said that the state government is indirectly helping the BJP by externing Swami Paripoornananda.
