Shandnagar: The indefinite strike launched by the lorry drivers and owners association against rising fuel cost and toll charges continued for the fifth consecutive day on Tuesday and all the lorries in Shadnagar and surrounding the Kottur industrial areas remained off road, affecting the movement of goods across the state.

The main demand of the lorry owners is that the government should bring the prices of diesel under the GST purview and enable reduction of the fuel prices. “We have been seeing that the fuel prices particularly diesel and petrol are sky-rocketing during the past 4 years.

Therefore, our demand is that the government should immediately bring the fuel prices under GST purview and also remove all the toll plazas across the country, because of which we are facing heavy losses,” said Sadik, a lorry owner from Shadnagar.

The lorry owners’ association leaders also demanded that the recent Central government’s safety bill passed in Parliament is also against the interests of the lorry owners and demanded the government to amend the road safety bill.
