Hyderabad: In a sharp reaction to the allegations of corruption made by Congress chief Rahul Gandhi against the TRS government, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Wednesday took to twitter, suggesting him to be cautious with his ‘script writers’ who were misleading him by feeding him with rank lies.

Harish Rao's reaction followed Congress president accusing the state of indulging in corruption in execution of irrigation projects.

In a series of tweets, he said, “Dear Rahul Gandhiji beware of your scriptwriters. You have said that in the name of redesigning of Kaleswaram project cost has been enhanced to Rs 1 lakh crore from Rs 38,000 crore. Your scriptwriters had forgotten that the first GO on Pranahita Chevella was issued for Rs 17,000 crore.”

He further said that within one year, even without starting the project works, the project cost was enhanced to Rs 38,000 crore in 2008 and by 2010 prepared DPR for Rs 40,000 crore. “Can you explain why the cost of the project had gone up Rahul Gandhiji,” Harish Rao asked. On the changing the name of the project, Harish Rao said it was not true.

“Rahul Gandhiji, you have said that Telangana government changed the name of Ambedkar project to Kaleswaram project. Again, your scriptwriters misguided you. Ambedkar Pranahita Project is still there which will cater to the needs of the two lakh acres of ayacut in Adilabad district. You have described the decision to redesign the project was only to make money in the form of pay offs. It may be true elsewhere but not in Telangana. Redesigning of the irrigation project was a dire technical necessity,” he said.

Harish Rao further said that the Kaleswaram project was approved by the Central Water Commission. “Your scriptwriters do not know that Central Water Commission approved the project cost for Rs 80,190 crore and not Rs 1 lakh crore. The Central Water Commission approved DPR of redesigned Kaleswaram project and accorded all statutory clearances in a record time of one year.

If you dub redesigning of project as a means of corruption, you are implying that the CWC is also? Are you and your script writers aware that CWC is the apex body on water projects in India affiliated to Ministry of Union Water Resources? How can you doubt credentials of the apex body?” he asked.
