Hyderabad: Disenchanted leaders of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, who could not get ticket, are now looking towards the Congress. Some leaders have already joined the Congress, while some more are waiting in wings to join the main Opposition party.
According to sources, most of the leaders are said to be unhappy ever since the party announced candidates for 105 Assembly constituencies. Some leaders have been meeting former minister K T Rama Rao and some are planning to join the Congress. Konda Surekha of Warangal East was unhappy with Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s decision to keep announcement of the candidature pending.
She alleged that her name was kept pending deliberately. She alleged that the Chief Minister was planning to make his son KT Rama Rao as Chief Minister. Though she did not disclose, which party she would join, sources said that she would join the Congress.
Sources also said that another leader from Warangal, T Rajaiah, may also join the Congress. Sources said the Chief Minister was angry over the audio conversation he had with a woman that had gone viral.
The developments after the audio tape indicate that there may be a change in the candidature of Station Ghanpur. A large number of TRS activists from Station Ghanpur took out a rally demanding Kadiyam Srihari to be made candidate. Kadiyam Srihari is presently the member of Legislative Council.
There were rumours in social media that Danam Nagender was also looking to change the party. However, Nagender said that these rumours were spread by some Congress leaders and added that he was not leaving the TRS.
Though it was said that Nagender would be given Goshamahal seat, it is not yet declared. The Congress leader was expecting the ticket from Khairatabad but the TRS is mulling to give ticket to P Vijaya Reddy, daughter of late Congress leader P Janardhan Reddy.
Another TRS leader and former MLA Gurunath Reddy, who could not get the ticket from Kodangal, surprised everyone by coming to the Congress Legislature Party office recently. Gurunath Reddy, who contested unsuccessfully during 2014 elections, expected ticket from Kodangal again.
However, MLC P Narender Reddy, brother of former Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy, was given the ticket from Kodangal. It is certain that Gurunath Reddy may join the Congress and support Revanth Reddy, sources said. Nizamabad leader facing charges of anti-party activities, R Bhoopati Reddy, joined the Congress recently.
Reddy has been facing charges of indiscipline and Nizamabad district leaders had recommended his suspension along with senior leader and Rajya Sabha member D Srinivas. Bhoopati Reddy has been in tussle with MLA Bajireddy Goverdhan and was also reprimanded by the Chief Minister once.
After joining the Congress, Bhoopati Reddy challenged the present MLA Bajireddy Goverdhan to contest and win against him from the Nizamabad Rural constituency. Another leader from Nizamabad P Sunil Reddy, the owner of Orange travels, expected the ticket from Balkonda constituency. However, the Chief Minister allotted the seat to sitting MLA V Prashanth Reddy.
