Hyderabad: In a major setback to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, the Dharmabad court of Nanded in Maharashtra on Friday rejected his plea for recall of non-bailable arrest warrant issued against him and 15 other leaders in a case related to a protest against the construction of Babli project in Maharashtra in 2010.
Senior advocate and TDP Rajya Sabha member Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar along with state Advocate-General Dammalapati Srinivas, and a group of advocates moved the petition seeking the recall of the arrest warrant. Taking exception to filing of the petition by the advocates, the magistrate expressed anger over Naidu and others not obeying the court orders.
The other leaders who received arrest warrants are – KSNS Raju, CH Prabhakar, Nama Nageshwara Rao, G Ramnayudu, D Umameshwara Rao, Mujafaruddin Anwaruddin, P Abdul Khan Rasool Kahan, S Somoju, AS Ratnam, P Satyanarayana, T Prakash Goud and N Anandbabu. Cases were booked against them under 353, 324, 332, 336, 337, 323, 504, 506, 109 and 34 IPC. The police inspector of Dharmabad was directed to arrest all the accused and produce before them before the judge on or before September 21.
Soon after the judge declined to recall the arrest warrant, Naidu’s advocates requested him to extend the time to appear before the court. Considering it, judge asked the TDP chief to appear before the court by October 15. The judicial officer felt that everyone is equal before the law and court will not tolerate the violation of the orders by anyone.
From Telangana, TRS leaders G Kamalakar and Praksah Goud, and Congress leader KS Ratnam appeared before the court and the judge issued bail to the three leaders who are preparing to contest in the Telangana assembly elections. Ravindra Babu said that the legal experts are exploring options for withdrawal of the case against Naidu.
The present status of the case will be explained to the TDP Chief and will take further steps accordingly before October 15, the deadline set to appear before the court.
