In a bid to wean away Seemandhra voters from the TRS in Telangana in the forthcoming Assembly elections, the Mahakutami an alliance of the Congress, TDP and CPI, is likely to announce sops for them in its manifesto

Hyderabad: In a bid to wean away Seemandhra voters from the TRS in Telangana in the forthcoming Assembly elections, the Mahakutami an alliance of the Congress, TDP and CPI, is likely to announce sops for them in its manifesto.

The Telangana Telugu Desam unit mooted the proposal of making some promises to attract Andhra voters following the demand from the party leaders hailing from Andhra and hold a political grip in their constituencies particularly in Greater Hyderabad limits.

A team of Telugu Desam leaders is already engaged in holding talks with Seemandhra people, business community and middle-class families living in the areas such as Kukatpally, Sherilingampally, LB Nagar, Jubilee Hills, Qutbullapur, Khammam, Sattupalli and Ashwaraopeta. The team is studying the living standards of Seemandhra people and the issues they are encountering in education and employment opportunities.

The population of Seemandhra people is estimated between 20 lakhs to 25 lakhs in greater Hyderabad limits and the voters of the particular group will play a key role in the victory of any party in the Assembly elections.

Although no significant incidents like discrimination in availing opportunities reported ever since the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, leaders said that poorer sections from Andhra migrated to Hyderabad and other parts of the state are facing difficulties in availing the state government sponsored welfare schemes and self-employment programmes due to nativity problems.

The TRS has already lured Seemandhra voters by addressing their local issues mainly drinking water problem, development of road network and issuance of rations cards and help them lead a decent life in Hyderabad.

After the formation of Telangana, Seemandhra people inclined towards the TRS and they also voted in support of the pink party in the GHMC elections. Now, the TDP is mainly concentrating on socio-economic development of the poorer sections of Seemandhra people in Telangana.

The issue of the inclusion of sops in the common manifesto of the proposed Grand Alliance is still in a primitive stage, a senior leader said. Clarity on the issue will come after the seat-sharing between the partners is finalised.

However, the TDP is determined to include the welfare of Seemandhra people in Telangana as one of the poll planks in its manifesto and press the Mahakutami also to fall in line to attract Seemandhra voters and weaning away them from the TRS.
