Vivid expressions in colours

City-based senior artist Padma Siri is showcasing her latest artworks titled, ‘Camouflage,’ at Icon Art Gallery. She studied applied arts at Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University (JNAFAU), Hyderabad.
Siri loves to depict art on nature, birds and animals. She used to work more on figurative art, but she shifted her medium from figurative to abstract. “The greatness of abstract art lies in its ability to ignite our curiosity about the reaches of our imagination and the potential to create something completely unique in the world. Initially, I worked more on figurative art, but soon shifted to abstract art due to my interest in colours and figures,” she said.
In the exhibition, one can witness a lot of colours mixed in the background in disguised form. To understand her work, one needs to observe her paintings very closely. The work is inspired by her surroundings and experiences she had. Explaining her relationship with using colours, Siri said, “I believe that colours have healing powers in nature. According to medical practitioners in India, all the seven chakras in a human body have been attributed to seven colours. It is believed that these colours can absorb powers to heal the body and soothe the mind.” Padma said she would stick to abstract medium and has no intentions to change the medium in the future.
