Spike in voter turnout in Patancheru

Voting percentage in the Patancheru constituency increased considerably in this election. While the constituency has a total of 2,81,737 voters, 2,13,005 voters exercised their vote in the polling held on Friday. It is notable that constituency witnessed a voter turnout of 75.6 per cent, compared to 65 per cent in 2014 elections. Political leaders and social activists expressed happiness over the increase in the voter turnout.

Compared to other constituencies in Hyderabad city, Patancheru has fared better in terms of voter turnout. Meanwhile, the political parties and their candidates are busy analyzing their poll prospects. However, many feel that Congress and TRS parties may be the main contestants for the seat. As the constituency has a mix of rural and urban voters, the political analysts are eager to know the result. It has three municipal corporations, three municipalities and several village panchayats.
The voting patterns across various divisions and mandals are as follows: The villages in the Patancheru mandal have a total of 54,729 votes, of which 43,764 were polled. Patancheru town has a total of 32,730 votes of which 22,860 were polled. The villages in the Ramachandrapuram mandal have a total number of 13,459 votes of which 11,465 were polled.

Ramachandrapuram town has 48,281 votes of which 34,518 votes were polled. The villages in Ameenpur mandal have a total of 9,605 votes, of which 7,978 were polled. The villages in Jinnaram mandal have a total of 18,304 votes, of which 16,337 were polled. Bollaram municipality has a total of 25,469 votes, of which 15,870 were polled. Tellapur municipality has a total of 11,692 votes, of which 8,877 were polled. Ameenpur municipality has a total of 41,768 votes, of which 28,984 were polled. While Bollaram municipality received lowest voter turnout of 63.31 percent, Jinnaram mandal received highest voter turnout of 88.35 per cent, followed by Gummadidala mandal with 87.35 per cent. While the rural side of Patancheru mandal received voter turnout percentage of 80.37, the urban areas such as Patancheru town, Ramachandrapuram, Ameenpur, Tellapur and Bollaram received 70 per cent voter turnout.

The increase in the overall voter turnout in the constituency indicates the voter awareness. While all the candidates and the party activists are busy analyzing their prospects, all are waiting to see the result on December 11. Both the candidates of Congress and TRS parties have been exuding confidence on their victories. While Congress party says that increase in voter turnout indicates anti-incumbency factor, TRS party leaders argue it as the indication of the increased support of people for TRS welfare and development schemes.
