Jeedimetla: Illegal multi-storeyed complexes in several new municipalities like Gandimaisamma, in Quthbullapur assembly constituency, are thriving, due to laxity of the officials concerned. Such constructions are taking place in disputed government lands (survey number 168) in Dommara Pochampalli village adjacent to the Gandimaisamma-Narsapur main road, where the Revenue department has not given any permission, even in violation of the collector’s orders. These constructions are being attributed to lack of coordination among officials of various departments and with the active connivance of people’s representatives, local residents told The Hans India.

Another reason for the mushrooming unauthorised buildings is that those officials who were working in Gram Panchayats have been posted in the new civic bodies. Executive Officers (EOs) of GPs are continuing to work, pending the posting of staff and officials of various departments. A person has put up two slabs along with cellar on the outskirts of Dommara Pochampalli village in survey no 168 adjacent to the Gandimaisamma-Narsapur main road, although the District Collector has banned such constructions in the area through an executive order. Rather strangely an official admitted that the site is owned by a friend of a former sarpanch.

Even the Revenue department and newly posted officials are not able to check the unauthorised constructions. When THI took the issue of illegal constructions to the notice of Gandimaisamma Municipal Commissioner Jyothi Reddy, she asserted that the civic staff would be sent to the spots to stop such building activities. She warned that stringent action would be taken if officials are found to be cooperating with builders of unauthorised complexes.
