Hyderabad: The narrow stretch of road between Hussaini Alam and Koka ki Tatti X roads near Puranapul has turned into an accident-prone zone following milling of the entire stretch of 2 km about two months back by the civic authorities. Interestingly, this time the milling was taken up on the road which rarely needed any kind of repair work and actually helped motorists a smoother drive prior to undertaking of this artificially created road damage.
According to locals, the milling (the process of removing at least part of the surface of a paved area such as a road, bridge, or parking lot) was done some two months back on the stretch where thousands of motorists travel each day. The road starting from the Morine Bakery in Hussainialam to Koka Ki Tatti X roads near Puranapul is partially damaged because of milling and there is still no sign of repair work or recarpeting of the road. In the recent days accidents were reported because of the bumps it has created on the stretch, which the motorists try to avoid and drive in haphazard fashion. This road was milled prior to elections more than two months back. Even though a month passed since the results were announced, there is no sign of any development on this road.
“Due to the pending of work and negligence of authorities, scores of accidents occurred on this stretch. As the road become rough and bumpy, the motorists lose control and slip on road. On Sunday, two accidents were witnessed near Baragalli. “An old couple lost control of their vehicle and fell. They were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment,” said Mohammed Sajid, a local vendor. While the commuters who are successfully cross the stretch feel like riding a vehicle with flattened tyre. “Riding on this bumpy road it feels like I am riding a bike which is punctured and it gets out of control and their remains a risk of bumping into a shop or some pedestrian,” said Murtuza Mohsin, a resident of Doodhbowli.
Locals alleged that the road was in good condition prior to milling. Even as the election fever gripped everyone the civic body engaged itself in damaging the road. “Even after two months of milling the development of roads is still remains pending. Entire road has been damaged and due to bumpy road motorists are suffering a lot. This is not only causing traffic snarls, but also accidents have become common on this stretch. On an average two accidents are being witnessed. We hope the GHMC will undo the damage or complete what it has started, as everyone is suffering because of this,” said Shaik Haji, an owner of sweet shop in Hussaini Alam. Despite continuous attempts to reach out to local Corporators and officials they were not available.
