Hyderabad: Kapra locality in Kushaiguda woke up to a bloody morning on Friday when it witnessed a major blast claiming the lives of two persons and leaving nine others injured. The impact of the blast was so huge that the glass panes of the building were thrown out in about a kilometre radius, besides damaging a few houses and a private hospital.
According to police, the blast took place at 7.15 am and the house came almost tumbling down. The LPG cylinder blast triggered an explosion on the first floor of the two-storey building owned by one Mohan Lal Chowdhary. The house collapsed under its impact and debris fell on to the road causing injuries to eight persons.
Mohan Lal Chowdhary (45), the jewellery shop owner and a native of Rajasthan, is living along with his wife Leela Devi (35) and two children Govind (12, studying class 8) and Nikhitha (10, studying class 6) in the house at Kapra, on the Old Mandal Office lane for the past 6 years. He was running a jewellery shop.
The locals including one Mohammed Ghousuddin (who lives opposite Mohan Lal’s house), alerted by the sound, came out to see what had happened. Ghousuddin saw Mohan Lal and his wife Leela Devi were thrown out on the road due the impact of the blast and suffered severe burns and bleeding injuries. Immediately, he ran to the adjacent hospital, brought the stretcher and shifted them to the hospital. Finding Mohan Lal’s two children crying on the first floor with injuries, the locals also shifted them to the hospital.
The police and fire officials rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. As the condition of Mohan Lal and his wife turned critical, the police shifted them to Yashoda Hospital in Secunderabad and the two children to Ankura Children’s Hospital at A S Rao Nagar.
A barber by name K Ravi Kumar (35), who was travelling on his bike died on the spot when a piece of concrete from the explosion hit him on the head. When he was shifted to the hospital, doctors declared him brought dead. The body was shifted to Gandhi Hospital for post mortem.
The impact was so huge that a school student Yashwanth Ram fell off from his bike and suffered injuries. He was shifted to Yashoda Hospital. Eight other persons were also injured in the incident.
While Mohan Lal Chowdhary died in hospital due to severe burns (90 per cent) and head injuries, the condition of his wife Leela Devi (with 40 to 50 per cent burns) is in critical condition. The condition of Yashwanth Ram who suffered injuries is out of danger. The condition of two children is stable and are undergoing treatment.
