The speaker Nadendla Manohar has issued notices to 9 Congress MLAs who have defied the whip of the party and voted against the government when the no-confidence motion moved by the TRS came up before the Assembly. A The speaker directed the members to give their replies within a week.
Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, Sujaya Krishna Ranga Rao, Alla Nani, Dwarampudi Chandrasekhara Reddy, Jogi Ramesh, Maddala Rajesh, Siva Prasad, Gottipati Ravi Kumar and Perni Nani received these notices. If the speaker disqualifies them immediately, there would be by-elections for the seats of these MLAs. As per the Representation of People's Act, by-elections need not be held if there is less than a year before the general elections. It was earlier believed that the Congress would not get the erring MLAs disqualified before June, to avoid by-elections. However, the Congress High Command has decided to contain indiscipline and take action against the defiant members. It should now be seen if by-elections would be caused. The speaker after going through the explanations offered by the MLAs, would also call each member to hear their version in person.
