Visakhapatnam: Rajya Sabha member, PCC treasurer and chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science & Technology, Environment and Forests, Mr. T Subbarami Reddy, laid foundation-stone for construction of a building to house Public Library at Prakashnagar, Malkapuram, near here on Sunday. The total project cost of the library building is Rs 42 lakh of which the RS member sanctioned Rs 30 lakh from his Parliamentary Constituency Development Fund and the remaining was from the library funds. Basic facilities, including electrification, furniture and toilets, would be provided at the library. On this occasion, TSR said that he has been doing social service and taking up community welfare activities irrespective of his political power. The library would be of help to the local public, senior citizens and especially youth who prepare for competitive exams. Explaining the various welfare fora launched by him in recent times for the benefit of various communities and religions, TSR said he was committed to service-oriented activities. MLA Malla Vijay Prasad, who presided over the meeting, complimented TSR for sanctioning the amount from his constituency funds to construct a building for the library. Former MLA Tippala Gurumurty Reddy, District Grandhalaya Samstha chairman Thota Nagesh and others spoke. Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) zonal commissioner Vijay Lakshmi was present. Later, TSR distributed Deepam LPG connections and bank linkage loans to the members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Earlier, accompanied by Tribal Welfare Minister P Balaraju, MLA Malla Vijay Prasad and ex-corporator Jiyani Sridhar, Mr Reddy unveiled a 16.3-ft statue of Dr BR Ambedkar at NAD Junction, which was set up at a cost of Rs 5 lakh. Mr Reddy called upon the youth to strive for the achievement of Ambedkar's ideology.
