Gangavaram Port Limited (GPL) has distributed training certificates and sewing machines to 50 women from nearby villages who have successfully completed six weeks of a sewing training program. The sewing machines and certificates were handed over by Gajuwaka MLA Ch Venkata Ramayya in the presence of Brahmaiah Gadde, Director (Operations), Janardhana Rao Senior Vice-President, and K Raja Ratnam Naidu, Senior Vice-President (RR & Security), at a function held on the port premises.

Visakhapatnam: Gangavaram Port Limited (GPL) has distributed training certificates and sewing machines to 50 women from nearby villages who have successfully completed six weeks of a sewing training program. The sewing machines and certificates were handed over by Gajuwaka MLA Ch Venkata Ramayya in the presence of Brahmaiah Gadde, Director (Operations), Janardhana Rao Senior Vice-President, and K Raja Ratnam Naidu, Senior Vice-President (RR & Security), at a function held on the port premises. The training programme designed to empower the women and provide them a sustainable livelihood opportunity received a huge response from the people.
The first batch of 50 women had to undergo six weeks of training which covered theoretical & practical knowledge about stitching and innovative clothing designs. The main objective of the training is to provide women an opportunity to be self-employed and supplement family income.
Speaking on the occasion Raja Ratnam Naidu said: “We are extremely pleased at the response for the programme. The first batch has been handed over the certificates along with the sewing machines today. With this programme, GPL is confident that the women in our surrounding area will be able to self empower themselves by getting employment or running a small home business. We want to uplift and give equal status to the women through activities like sewing and stitching programs. ”
Gangavaram Port is the most modern and the deepest port in India and is located at Visakhapatnam, the industrial nerve center of Andhra Pradesh.
