Hanamkonda: A group of youth, under the banner of ‘Youth for Swachh Warangal’, has cleaned the premises of Padmakshi tank in Hanamkonda on Tuesday. The tank, which is a place for Bathukamma immersion, has been stinking as the garbage left at the tank was not cleared by Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation personnel even after one week passed since Saddula Bathukamma celebrated.
The youth have collected the left-over Bathukamma flowers and plastic covers at the tank’s ghat and disposed them off at a local garbage bin. Speaking on the occasion, Youth for Swachh Warangal president Thota Pavan expressed concern at the negligent attitude of the corporation officials to clean the tank.
It is sad that the corporation, which won Swachhata award recently, has remained indifferent in ensuring cleanliness at the tanks, where Bathukamma immersion took place in the city. As the Bathukamma flowers and other material were not removed from the tank, the water in the tank got discoloured.
As a result, the tanks are stinking causing severe inconvenience to the citizens, he said. The organisation general secretary Chintala Anil demanded the corporation officials to launch efforts to clean Padmakshi and other tanks in the city. Otherwise, the foul-smelling tanks could spread diseases, he warned.
The organisation members V Prasad, Praneel Kumar, Santhosh K, Padmakshi Youth Association members Pochana Sathish, P Madhukrishna, Venkat and others took part in the task of cleaning the tank premises.
