Warangal: Congress party has decided to stay away from the contest for GWMC 44th ward by-poll scheduled to be conducted on January 9, 2018. In a statement here on Thursday, Greater Warangal Congress Committee president K Srinivas Rao informed that the party acting on humanitarian grounds is not contesting in the by-election. The decision was taken after holding elaborate deliberations in the District Congress Committee and obtaining consent from the TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy.
He said TRS leaders like MLA D Vinay Bhasker, Mayor N Narender and the party nominee’s family members have appealed Congress leadership to elect TRS candidate Anishetty Saritha unanimously on sympathetic grounds. As the seat fallen vacant following the murder of Saritha’s husband and sitting ward member Anishetty Murali few months ago, Congress intends to extend solidarity to his family, Srinivas Rao explained.
It may be noted that BJP leadership has rejected the TRS’s request for unanimous election. Meanwhile, the TRS nominee Saritha has filed her nominations papers on Thursday in the presence of MLA Vinay Bhasker, KUDA Chairman M Yadava Reddy, State Handicapped Development Corporation Chairman K Vasudeva Reddy, GWMC corporators Boda Dinna, V Ravinder and others.
Later speaking to presspersons, the MLA and the TRS nominee have appealed the public in 44th ward to vote for the party in the by-election for the development of the division. The State government has been implementing various programmes for the development of the city, they said.
So far only two candidates have filed nominations for the by-poll. An independent candidate, Banka Rakesh Yadav, had filed his nomination papers on Wednesday. The BJP nominee, K Santhosh Reddy, will submit his nomination papers on Friday, the last date for filing nominations.
The scrutiny of nominations will take place on December 30 and December 31 is the last date for withdrawal of nominations. Counting of voters and declaration of result will take place on January 11, Returning Officer Karunakar informed.
