GWMC Commissioner cycles to office in hot sun

It seems that the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) Commissioner VP Gautham intends to set an example by deeds, instead of words. In line with the corporations’ efforts to promote bicycling in the city towards a lesser polluted environs, the Commissioner on Monday chose to commute on his bicycle all through the day, attending his official work.

Warangal: It seems that the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) Commissioner VP Gautham intends to set an example by deeds, instead of words. In line with the corporations’ efforts to promote bicycling in the city towards a lesser polluted environs, the Commissioner on Monday chose to commute on his bicycle all through the day, attending his official work.

Setting aside cozy air-conditioned vehicle the government provided him, Gautham has set off on the bicycle from his camp office at Ambedkar centre in Hanamkonda to GWMC head office. Sporting a formal dress and sports cap, he rode a distance of nearly seven kilometres to reach his office.

The Commissioner also reached back to Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA) office in Hanamkonda from GWMC head office during scorching summer afternoon. Many a passer-by and those at the offices remained surprised at the Commissioners’ simple but rather significant act. During an interaction with the presspersons, Gautham said he just wanted to do his part towards promotion of commuting using bicycles. “Recently we organised a Heritage Ride in that connection. I personally like bicycling and bought a bicycle sometime back,” he added.

It may be noted the GWMC in association with Hyderabad Bicycling Club intending to set up Bike Stations to offer bicycles on hiring basis to the citizens for the promotion of bicycling. As part of the Smart City Mission, efforts are also being made to make the city roads bicycle-friendly.
