With a view to raise awareness about menstrual health, the Government of Telangana in collaboration with Manushi Chhillar (Miss World 2017) kick-started the 1st global edition of ‘Feminine Hygiene Awareness’ in Hyderabad on Thursday.

To further the campaign and to promote ‘Feminine Hygiene’ Miss World winners along with Manushi will travel to different cities around the world after its launch in Hyderabad.

Miss World 2017 ManushiChhillar who in collaboration with the Government of Telangana facilitated the event, spoke in length about her involvement and what is being done in spreading awareness about menstrual &feminine hygiene through her pet project ‘Shakti’. She emphasised the need for inclusive and collective effort amongst all stakeholders to ensure the movement to be long lasting.

Project Shakti is educating the women and men in rural areas of the country about menstrual hygiene and has been a passionate advocate on why it is important for a woman to use a sanitary napkin and provide low-cost sanitary napkins to them.

So far, Manushi has already covered more than 20 villages in India. She believes, the Miss World platform gives tremendous scale to expand her commitment towards social causes and she is glad to receive great support from the Telangana Government to further the social mission.

The interesting feature of the event in Hyderabad was the coming together of eight Miss Worlds on one platform. It was truly inspiring for the audience to hear out Miss World winners Stephanie Del Valle (Miss World 2016), MaglineJeruto (Miss World Africa) Ha Eun Kim (Miss World Asia) Annie Dian Evans (Miss World Oceania) Stephaine Jayne Hill (Miss World Europe) Solange Johnson Sinclair (Miss World Caribbean) Alma Andrea Meza Carmona (Miss World Americas). Each one of them touched on myths and cultural taboos as well.

Adding charisma to the event was brilliant classical dance performances by Kuchipudi dance guru Yamini Reddy’s students and kids froma school in Vikarabad.
