Virat Kohli has been reprimanded by the ICC for having an inappropriate physical contact with South African pacer Beuran Hendricks. The Indian skipper has also been handed one demerit point after being found guilty for Level 1 Beach of the ICC Code of Conduct.

The incident occurred in the third T20I between India and South Africa on Sunday, when Kohli made a physical contact with Beuran Hendricks while running past him.

In a media release, the ICC stated, "Kohli was found to have breached Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to "Inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator) during an International Match."

The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Nitin Menon and C K Nandan, third umpire Anil Chaudhary and fourth official Chettihody Shamshuddin.

Kohli, who received one demerit point each during the Pretoria Test against South Africa on 15 January 2018 and against Afghanistan in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019 on 22 June, now accounts for three demerit points in total.

South Africa pipped India in the final game of the three-match T20I series to square the series 1-1. The two teams are slated to lock horns with each other in a three-match Test series beginning in Visakhapatnam from 2 October.
