The four-day 78th All India Railway Hockey Championship for Men kicked off at Synthetic Hockey Stadium, Railway Sports Complex, Secunderabad on Friday.

Hyderabad: The four-day 78th All India Railway Hockey Championship for Men kicked off at Synthetic Hockey Stadium, Railway Sports Complex, Secunderabad on Friday.

In the Knockout Stage Phase Quarterfinals match played between South Central Railway defeated North Central Railway 3-1 on the inaugural day.

Both the Teams played with full enthusiasm and showcased excellent sportsman spirit.

Chief guest B.B. Singh, Additional General Manager, SCR inaugurated the championship which is being organised by SCR Sports Association (SCRSA).

In all eight teams representing Central Railway, Eastern Railway, North Central Railway, Northern Railway, North Western Railway, Rail Coach Factory, Integral Coach Factory and South Central Railway are competing in the Knockout Stage Tournament to lift championship.

BB Singh welcomed the players and expressed his happiness that the championship is being organised by SCR at the world class synthetic hockey turf stadium.

He advised all the Teams representing various Zonal Railways and Production Units to put in their best efforts and show true sportsmanship.

JK Jain, president, SCRSA and Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer, SCR; Rajeev Kumar Gangele, secretary (Hockey), SCRSA and Deputy Chief Engineer, Construction, SCR and officials were also present during the occasion.
