Bhupalpally: The Kakatiya Thermal Power Plant (KTPP) near Chelpur in Jayashankar-Bhupalpally district will have a dedicated conveyor belt to its stage–2 plant.

The conveyer belt is aimed at easing transportation of coal from its reserves to the plant. It may be mentioned here that KTPP has a 500-MW capacity stage–1 plant commissioned in 2010 and a 600-MW stage–2 plant operationalised in 2016.

Currently, the plant is equipped with just one conveyor belt to shift the coal to both the plants. With the lone conveyer belt is failing to meet the demand of both the plants, the TSGENCO has decided to install an additional coal handling plant dedicated for the stage–2 plant.

The officials of the GENCO said that having second conveyer belt is handy especially when one of the belts runs into repairs, the other one is able to cater to the needs of the plants. It is learnt that installation of the 2-kilometer-long new conveyer belt is being taken up at a cost of Rs 180 crore. The belt will have a capacity to shift 1,000 metric tons of coal in an hour. According to officials, the additional coal handling plant will be ready within six months.
