Around 20 divisions out of the total 28 have been bagged by the TRS party. Mekala Kavya who contested from 15th division won with a majority of 900 votes. She is the daughter of Mekala Ayappa, a close associate of Minister Mallareddy.

Kavya assumed significance after being elected as Mayor even though having no political experience.

She had done schooling from Narayana School in Marredpalli of Secunderabad, intermediate from Narayana Jr college and graduated from Srinidhi Engineering College. Kavya was got married to a softwar engineer in 2017.

It is learned that Mekala Bhargava Ram, brother of Kavya has played a prominant role in her win.
