Hyderabad: As the State government has appointed a new chairperson and the committee members for Telangana State Women's Commission, the human rights activist, whose letter to the Chief Justice of High Court was taken into cognisance suo motu by the court, expressed happiness over the belated decision.

Regulapati Ramya Rao, who appealed to the Chief Justice to direct the State government to appoint chairperson for the women's panel, extended gratitude to the court for acting on her plea and directing the State government to do the needful.

"I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the Hon'ble High Court of Telangana which, after taking suo motu cognisance of my letter written to the Hon'ble Chief Justice and registered a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) 216/2020, directed the Telangana government to appoint forthwith before December 31, 2020 chairperson and other members of the Telangana State Women's Commission," she said in a press statement released on Monday.

She said at this juncture, she wanted to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the High Court and each and every one who assisted her in the relentless fight for women's rights and expected the same response and assistance in all her future endeavours.
