Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to challenge the Telangana Municipal Act-2019 in the court on the issue of the two-child norm.

It may be mentioned here that the State Assembly passed the Act on Sunday. However, the Act has omitted a specific norm which was present in the old Act as well as the Panchayat Raj Law.

Addressing media BJP MLC N Ramachender Rao said the local self-government Acts covering municipal bodies and village panchayats bar a person with more than two children from contesting elections.

However, the State government has omitted the same while bringing the new law to please Majlis, he added. "The BJP will certainly take up the issue and will represent it to the Governor and if needed challenge the law in the country," he added.

Meanwhile, BJP State unit president K Laxman criticised Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and said the Chief Minister should be made an ambassador for speaking lies.
