Congress banks on jobless, youth support
The Congress feels that the employees of the State government are angry with it for not fulfilling their aspirations while the unemployed youth are vexed with economic policies of Narendra Modi government at the Centre
Hyderabad: The Congress is hopeful of support from employed and unemployed youth of the State in the elections to the Parliament as the national party feels that the youth were vexed with the State and the Central governments.
According to sources, while the employees of the State government of TRS are angry with it for not fulfilling their aspirations while the unemployed youth are vexed with economic policies of Narendra Modi government at the Centre.
The Congress feels that these sections would vote for the party as there is no other choice for them in the elections. Around 3.5 lakh employees and 1.5 lakh pensioners are not happy with the governments for the past one year.
Party leaders feel that about 30 lakh unemployed youth, who form 8.5 per cent of the total population of the State, are angry with the State and Central governments for lack of job opportunities.
The sources said that their anger against the State government was reflected in the recent MLC elections. The graduates and teachers have defeated the TRS candidates in those elections.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee official spokesperson Nizamuddin told The Hans India that the government employees and the jobless youth are against the government. He said that those above 35 years of age among the educated were angry with the TRS and the BJP for not keeping their poll promises.
He said that the jobless youth were aggrieved with both the governments as they have failed to implement the Information Technology Invest Region project in the State.
The youth were particularly angry with the Centre as it failed to keep the promise of creating two crore jobs every year.
Nizamuddin said that the Muslim youth are unhappy with the State and the Central government for failing to create job opportunities. They hoped that with the formation of Telangana, they would get jobs.
But the TRS has failed them, he added. The Congress leaders speculate that out of the 3.5 lakh government employees and 1.5 lakh pensioners, as many as 70 per cent were against the State government and they would vote for the party.
The Congress received about 57 lakh votes in the previous Assembly elections which was 28 per cent of the total votes polled. The party feels that this percentage would go up and the party may get about 33 to 35 per cent of more votes, the sources added.
