Speaking to the media after the Core Committee meeting of the PCC, he said that rampant sale of liquor in the State has been leading to atrocities on women. He said that the Priyanka incident was a blot on the nation. Sale of liquor on the national highways should be banned.

He said that the way police behaved with the parents of Priyanka was heinous, he slammed.

The PCC chief demanded that the State government should hold prosecution of the accused in the case through a fast-track court and punish the culprits at the earliest. The Congress has decided to hold candlelight rallies in all the district headquarters on Sunday.

Speaking about the discussions on the RTC issue, he said that the government behaved differently in the court and outside. While it said that government has no dues to pay in the court, the chief minister announced that Rs 100 crores would be paid to RTC, he faulted.

He said that the Core Committee meeting has condemned the hike of RTC fares and made it clear that the government should bear the losses. He stated that protest demonstrations would be held against the hike of RTC bus fares on Monday.

Uttam has mentioned that it has been decided to take about 1,200 leaders to Delhi to participate in the agitation on December 14 against the bad economic conditions of the country.

Leaders of village, mandal, town and district party leaders would be taken to Delhi. He said that the committee discussed about the municipal elections and it has been opined in the meeting that party cadre should be prepared for ensuing civic polls.
