DRI officials seize prohibited items worth Rs 52 lakh at RGIA

Hyderabad: The officials of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on specific intelligence intercepted seven consignments of prohibited unaccompanied baggage of African nationals, originating from Lagos, Nigeria, at Air Cargo Complex at RGIA, Shamshabad.

Around 13 tonnes of prohibited and restricted items worth Rs 52.24 lakh seized by them.

The items seized under the provisions of Customs Act, 1962, and the officials found that the African nationals in the name of tourist and medical visa are engaging themselves in smuggling of unregulated food stuff into India and also undervaluing the consignments to evade the customs duty.

According to DRI officials no arrest has been made, till now.
