Hyderabad: Senior officials in the Telangana State Higher Education Department (TSHED) and Technical Education Department (TED) are waiting for the nod of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to go for appeal against High Court single bench verdict on fee hike in engineering colleges for the academic year 2019-20.
According to sources, delay in the appointment of the Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee(TAFRC) to fix fee for the admission into the professional colleges in the State led to some private engineering colleges going to the court and getting a favourable verdict from the State High Court.
As a consequence, the students will have to pay a fee ranging between Rs 1.80 lakh and Rs 2 lakh as proposed by some colleges for taking admission into the BTech and other courses for the academic year 2019-20.
Speaking to The Hans India, a senior TSHED official said the colleges can collect the fee which was proposed by them.
However, they have to remit back a part of the fee collected by them in case the TAFRC constituted on later date fixes a fee less than what they have proposed and allowed to collect from the students for time being.
The senior officials in the TSHED and the TED know that the problem is likely to come up and they are aware of need for constituting the TAFRC under the chairmanship of a former judge.
However, due to the intervening elections of the State Assembly and Lok Sabha had left the issue remained unaddressed.
The TSHED and TED officials have in principle decided to go for an appeal on the single judge verdict allowing some of the private colleges to collect as per the that they have proposed.
But, the officials feel that they are on a weak wicket following the State government not constituting the TAFCR.
It was against this backdrop that the officials have decided to place the file and the judgment of the State High court before the Chief Minister who is expected to take a final call on the issue.
