Supriya Goud, the newly elected corporator of Musheerabad, has set two goals for her - Completing her undergraduate degree which she is pursing through open university are addressing crucial public issues .

A homemaker and first-time contestant in the elections, she wants to focus on the prevention of contaminated drain water with drinking water and improvement of conditions in the slums. The total population of Musheerabad division has around 50,000 households and the predominant issues are lack of proper drainage system and mixing of drain water with drinking water lines. Particularly, the problem is acute in the slum and surrounding areas of Babujinagar, Mohan Nagar, Jambavi Nagar, Achaiah Nagar and the like, she notes.

Already proposals were mooted for eight new drainage lines in the area. Besides, seven or eight roads were inaugurated just a month ahead of the GHMC elections. Now, the corporation has been trying to complete road-laying works for the last five days in the division.

However, "I have asked them to stop laying roads where there is no good drinage system. Because, there is no point in laying roads and then digging them up for laying drainlines. It would be costing double for the civic body," she observed.

Against this backdrop, the corporator-elect has asked the officials to take up the road laying works only where there already exists good drainage systems. That apart, the drain line coming from the Gandhi Hospital area has been connected to the drainage lines passing through the Musheerabad. But, whenever there are rains, areas such as Vinobha Nagar and Adarsh Nagar are getting inundated.

So, this has to be addressed on a priority basis. "The issue has already been taken to the notice of officials concerned. I have urged Secundrabad MP and Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, G Kishan Reddy, for necessary help. I hope, with the cooperation of all, I will be in a position to address and resolve the problems of the people of the division," she added.
