Corona patients are being given quality and nutritious food everyday by Telangana government, but some of them are demanding non-vegetarian dishes to be also served to them.

Hyderabad: Corona patients are being given quality and nutritious food everyday by Telangana government, but some of them are demanding non-vegetarian dishes to be also served to them.

Each day nearly 50 to 60 patients (including those who gave samples and are in isolation and those who tested postive) are being supplied with special diet in Gandhi hospital.

The everyday diet plan is being given under the guidance of a nutritionist.

The everyday diet includes dry fruits like Kaju, Badam, Anjeer, Dates etc, and fruits as well as boiled egg during lunch and dinner.

The everyday breakfast menu itself comprises different tiffins like idli, wada, puri, uthappa, bonda etc and it is served from 7.30am to 8.30am. Tea or coffee along with biscuits is served at 10 am.

Lunch menu (served from 1 to 2 pm) is rice, veg curry, dal and sambar, curd boiled egg and banana along with mineral water. Evening snacks from 4 to 5 pm consists of Coffee along with dry fruits.

Dinner time is between 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm and the menu is same like as lunch but fruit served is orange instead of banana. The food is being served in sealed packing of bio-degradable and disposable material.

When asked about non-vegetarian demand of some of the patients, Gandhi superintendent Dr Shravan Kumar said that 'it is not advisable to serve non-vegetarian dishes to patients as they have symptoms like fever etc. But we have included boiled egg in lunch and dinner menu for those who wish to have it.'

When Health Minister Eatala Rajender was told about the non-vegetarian food demand of the Covid-19 patients, he appealed to them to understand the situation and try to co-operate with the government that is serving special diet through outside catering service. This is not a five-star hotel but hospital and they are admitted as patients here, he said.
