With the first plasma injected patient recovering, Gandhi doctors send a list of others to ICMR for their approval to continue with plasma therapy

Hyderabad: Gandhi Hospital is waiting for ICMR nod to continue plasma therapy for other corona patients after the trial done on one patient is showing good results.

The Covid-19 designated hospital in the State sent a list with the names of six patients, who were on oxygen, for giving plasma therapy. Initially, ICMR had approved the therapy on a 44-year-old male patient, who was then injected with plasma twice by Gandhi doctors in a gap of some days. The patient is showing good signs of recovery and is likely to be discharged shortly. This report has been sent to ICMR, which will assess the daily condition of other patients and give directions on who are suitable to be injected with plasma by Gandhi doctors.

According to sources, Gandhi doctors planned to give this treatment to one or more patients on Monday expecting communication from ICMR. However, it was not carried out. It is learnt some more will be given the treatment in the next few days.

Menwhile, the plasma that has been collected by Gandhi from Covid-19 discharged people would be sufficient for three more patients.

If ICMR approves for more patients, Gandhi doctors will have to call upon some from over 32 people who were shortlisted as donors among 200-odd recovered patients, who voluntarily came forward for the cause.

Until now, four donors gave their plasma including the first infected patient in Telangana.
