Hyderabad: Goodwill stores – 'Pick Up for Free' – established by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is trending across Hyderabad with a few changes and giving it an urban touch. Unlike in the past, now, the urban goodwill stores would be accepting all kinds of household goods, such as heavy commodities, used beds or cots, utensils, electronics and clothes. The goods which are reusable are accepted at these goodwill stores.

These goodwill stores were established in several rural areas of Telangana, which created a trend of generosity among the people. GHMC is currently planning to open the stores at urban locations. Any needy person can enter the shop with dignity and pick up anything from the available donated stock free of cost.

Currently, bins put up in Kukatpally are accepting donations and the needy can collect the donated goods from the stores to be opened. The primary objective of the concept is to spread humanity and help the needy by collecting donations from people. The goodwill store operates from 10 am to 5 pm on all days. Goods such as used clothes in good condition, old chairs, used bottles, old gadgets, etc, that could be of use for the needy can be donated.

"We have installed collection bins in different areas of Kukatpally. People can donate used or old goods which are not in use. Any needy can take these donated items from the Goodwill Store which is well maintained by our staff," said V Prashanthi, Kukatpally, Deputy Commissioner, GHMC.

"We have opened a Goodwill Store in Sangareddy, a rural district of Telangana, which became a huge hit. There were numerous contributions to the Goodwill Store and hoping to get the same response from citizens of Kukatpally," she added. GHMC will be creating more such concept stores across the major urban locations depending on the response. Inauguration of these stores has been lined up in Kukatpally. It has been delayed due to increasing coronavirus cases in the city.
