Mahbubnagar: A troop of Kalajatha artistes visited Somla Nayak Thanda of Rajapur mandal of Mahbubnagar district on Wednesday and created awareness on Central government programme 'Beti Bachao and Beti Padhao' on the premises of the Government Primary School.

The team danced and enacted a drama to create awareness about the importance of protecting the girl child and provide them education, so that they will have good careers and reach greater heights in their lives.

Speaking on the occasion, the Kalajatha team members said that in Thanda and rural areas the education of girl children is being neglected. They said many people in villages are still carrying that notion that girls are inferior to boys and they must be confined to indoors. This is not correct and there is a need for creating awareness in order to change their mindset. "Today the times have changed, unlike earlier, there are lots of opportunities available for the girl children. Therefore, the parents must send their children particularly the girls to schools and set a good platform for their future career," said the Kalajatha team.

The Kalajatha team are visiting various villages and rural areas and conducting awareness programmes on Beti Bachao and Beti Padhao programme. District Collector Ronald Rose has initiated this programme and has entrusted the responsibility to the Kalajatha team for spreading the awareness in schools and rural villages.
