Khammam: The police have thwarted the Jaladeeksha planned by Congress leaders at Dummugudem tail pond in Aswapuram mandal in Kothagudem district on Saturday.

The police placed CLP leader and Madhira MLA Bhatti Vikramarka under house arrest at Madhira. Similarly Bhadrachalam MLA Podem Veeraiah was arrested at Bhadrachalam bridge centre while he was going to Dummugudem.

Meanwhile, former MP V Hanumantha Rao and ex-MLA Ramulu Naik were taken into police custody at Kothagudem after their arrival from Hyderabad to take part in Jaladeeksha along with other leaders of the party.

At the request of Hanumantha Rao and Ramulu Naik the police allowed them to visit Sri Sita Ramachandra Swamy Temple at Bhadrachalam. As they insisted on visiting the local MLA Veeraiah's house the denied permission and sent them back Hyderabad.

Speaking to the press Vikramarka and Hanumantha Rao strongly condemned the arrests of Congress leaders by the police. The TRS government was suppressing the voice of opposition leaders, they alleged.

It was unconstitutional to prevent opposition party leaders from staging Jaladeeksha which was meant to put pressure on the government for the speedy construction of pending projects in the State, he said.
