Kothagudem: Coal production in Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) came to a halt on Thursday, the first day of the three-day strike taken up by miners against the Modi govt's move to open up the coal sector to privatisation. The SCCL on Thursday generated 30,000 tonnes coal only against one lakh tonne during normal days.

Opposing the Modi government's decision to open up the coal sectors to private players, the national trade unions gave a call for a three-day nation-wide strike starting from Thursday. following the call, nearly 75% workers and employees participated the strike and made it a grand success. Local trade union leaders said only 25% workers attended for duty on the first day of the strike in coal belts across the State. All the workers and others raised anti-government slogans during the strike and condemned the Centre' decision of privatisation of coal mines.

RSS, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) and other affiliated unions also participated in the first day of strike. Recognised unions TGBKS, affiliated to TRS also participated in the strike.
